B&D String Trimmer Spools, pre-wound
I like the B&D trimmers since they are not the "bump & curse" type..............they actually work as advertised, no bumping/cursing needed. I get a 6 pack in the spring, to carry me through the entire summer season. The price is right, and the pre-wound spools show up at my door in just a few days. Not having to putz with re-winding them myself is a great convenience. I save a few of the spools just in case.

Useful little things for a low usage user
Very useful, nothing exciting, but highly practical.
I don't get through a lot of trimmer string and I don't even need to change/refill the spool every year.
So for me, this lazy approach to string replacement is a simple no-brainer.
If I was using a lot more string I'd have to think twice due to the extra cost over doing it myself, but this is perfect for me.

When I saw the weed eater on the info commercial, I really hedged to buy it. But I did not worry about it if it was on amazon.com.
Yes-the weedeater doed everything that the tv commerical says it does.
Really easy to use and I like the two battery packs. My friend has a easier time operating it and he states that it is a nice yard tool. It is well worth the money spent on it.
I guess I really like it because the spools just flip on it and there is not rewinding of string on the spool. I hate that-it never works right for me.

Every year my dad and his best friend go out and cut the bushes. They make a weekend out of it, trimming the bushes and trees and then parlaying stories of how hard the tasks were since they had to accomplish all the tasks using cutting shears and saws. This year, aided by Black & Decker NHT524 24-Volt 24-Inch Cordless Electric Dual-Action Hedge Trimmer the task of cutting all the bushes and several two-story trees in about 20 minutes. The hedges were trimmed neatly, as if someone drew a line and used a laser to point the trimmer. The effort spent on the cutting of the trees and the bushes was minimal at best.
The tool has the following pros: it's easy to use; comes with several safety features - you must press each button separately in order to operate the machinery and there is a case for the blade of the trimmer that's useful for storage; it trims hedges in a very straight, perfect line; the battery has a long life - it was adequate for the cutting and trimming of all the hedges and tall bushes around a single-family house. Additionally, the box in which it arrived from amazon had the trimmer packaged neatly, with plenty of careful packaging to assure safe delivery and safety upon opening.
The cons are minimal. The trimmer should be handled with both hands for optimal results in trimming the hedges straight. The battery is long-lasting but makes the trimmer heavy for a small woman to handle.
The most important negative aspect of the trimmer is also the best positive aspect of the item, with the jobs of trimming the hedges, your dad will want to play with this toy but will inevitably be unable to do so as it will cut the trimming time to less than half an hour.

Good Cordless Hedge Trimmer
It took me a while to write this review because I had to wait until our bushes grew to the point of needing a good trimming. Well, I waited plenty long because I gave this trimmer a good workout. Here's what I liked:
1.) I like that I don't have to worry about accidentally nicking the electric cord as I did several times on my other hedge trimmer. It's got several places where I had to wrap black electrical tape around it.
2.) Light weight enough that I (female) can use it without it killing my arms. I have some tall shrubs and I had to lift the trimmer almost over my head to cut them back.
3.) It cuts very good. The blade is sharp and long enough, and the motor is powerful enough to cut through some thicker stems ~ around 1/4" in diameter.
4.) The battery lasted right at an hour. Although it says it will run for 2 hours it probably will if there isn't any stress on the motor to actually cut something. I was able to do a great deal of serious hedge trimming within an hour.
The only thing I didn't like and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the safety button has to be pressed the entire time with your thumb while cutting or else the trimmer won't work. My hand got very tired of having to keep the button depressed the entire time. Next time I'm just going to keep it pressed with duct tape.

Great hedge trimmer, very easy to use.
I've worked professionally with gas trimmers. Ugh! Noisy, you get fumes in your face, and my arms tire after a while and my forearms have sometimes ached afterward. And after refilling the gas tank if it doesn't start right up again - if it floods or for other reason doesn't start... Gas trimmers, like all gas-powered yard tools, tend to require fairly high maintenance.
I've used corded electric trimmers and have found them convenient to use (in locations where I have access to power, of course), but there is always the risk of hitting the cord with the blades (e.g., because you're not paying attention or simply forget that you're using a corded electric yard tool; you spin around in the wrong direction and suddenly the blade is this close to nicking the cord).
At present I only have three evergreen shrubs to trim in front of my house, and because it doesn't take all that long to get the job done, a charged battery in the Black & Decker Cordless Hedge Trimmer is more than sufficient. The trimmer is as light as the last, shorter (18 inch), corded electric trimmer I owned, and is much more hassle-free to use by virtue of it being cordless. Plus, the 24-inch blade gives it a good reach, so I don't have to use a stepladder to reach the tops of the shrubs, which are about 7 feet high (I'm 6'). My arms don't ache after using it, and I don't feel queasy from breathing fumes. And there is no comparison between the noise of a gas trimmer and the noise level of the B&D cordless, and while I typically choose to listen to music via noise-reducing in-ear-monitors (headphones) while doing yard work, I don't have to use those or any other kind of hearing protection when using this trimmer.

Look Ma -- no cord!!
I remember when I was little and my dad would trim the bushes, at least once a year, he would cut the cord in 2. Perhaps that was the reason every SINGLE YEAR of our lives, all three of us girls gave him a roll of electricians tape (affectionately known as "friction tape"). I wish my dad was still around because he would have loved this.
This trimmer is easy and comfortable to use. I have always had a lot of success with Black and Decker in terms of reliability and cost/performance and this trimmer appears to have the same build quality as our other tools.
As others have mentioned, the battery life and technology leaves A LOT to be desired!! In this day and age of rechargeable batteries, I have no reason why they went with the less effective Ni-Cad batteries. We don't have many hedges which require trimming but if this was the house I grew up in, it would have taken my dad about 1 week to make his way through all our bushes because there is no way he would have had the power to do more than one bush at a time.
Other than the battery issue, I would say this is about the coolest hedge trimmer around -- based on my very limited experience with hedge trimmers. And, as I say, with Black and Decker, you can't go wrong....

Powerful and Lightweight
My boyfriend LOVES this thing! He was thrilled that it is cordless and just amazed at how light it is. He trimmed the entire yard (and there some pretty thick hedges there) and didn't have to recharge at all. It powered through everything he tested it on with complete ease. Not having a cord makes all the difference in the world. The trimmer is well-balanced and fairly easy to use. The trigger is a bit stiff and it was a little difficult for my wife to wield about. However, I loved it. No more accidentally cut cords and sparky surprises.

Excellent hedge trimmer, can't think of anything I'd improve on
I was really pleased with this hedge trimmer. I am not a big husky guy, just an average-sized woman with some arm problems that can't handle much weight, so a lot of trimmers I find difficult to handle, particularly cordless models. This B&D model is really well balanced even though it has a sizable battery, and I didn't have any problems using it, even to reach some higher areas. It sliced through even about 1/2 inch thick branches with ease, and on the other end of the scale, very thin ones that were blowing all over in the wind. Really pleased with its cutting action, it's super smooth and easy to use for a variety of trimming needs. Good safety mechanisms as you'd expect, with a guard in front, and a two-button activation method. The charger for it was pleasantly compact, and B&D has other similar 24V tools that use the same battery so you can swap them as needed. Overall, I would highly recommend this trimmer.
