It is almost impossible to know exactly how the used Exmark Metro walk behind mower you are thinking about buying has been treated in the past and some sellers aren't exactly 100% truthful about the condition of the lawn mowers engine and parts. The good news is that Exmark builds incredibly tough mowers that are designed to handle more use than the normal homeowner models found at chain stores.

Here are a few thing to check out before you buy.

Blade Spindles - Wiggle all of the blade spindle bolts on the top of the cutting deck. They should be firm in their bearings. A little movement means the bearings need to be replaced. Two bearings per spindle will cost you about $20. A lot of movement means the entire spindle assembly possibly needs to be replaced at a cost of about $120. Both of these repairs are very routine repairs and are easy to fix yourself.

Belts - Inspect all belts for tears or cracking. A new belt could cost you $40

Tires - These little tires could last forever. Just be sure that there are no holes in the sidewalls of the tires. Landscapers run into alot of sharp debris so a few tire plugs are normal.

Engine - The engine should run smoothly and should not drop rpms or run erradicly at idle or when in gear. Look for oil leaks. Seals take time to replace and if you don't do the work yourself it could get costly.

Overall Appearance - A rusty mower indicates that it was left outside alot. Water is the biggest enemy of all lawn mowers and I would try to avoid buying a lawn mower that is heavily rusted. Water can ruin the electrical systems and destroy bearings. I would also be a little hesitant to buy a mower that has been repainted.

I would like to buy a blade cutter from ebay
I know the size is 21" but i have seen so many diferent blade types, i am not sure
what to look for.

Besides the length you have to know how it mounts. There are a few different styles. Sears uses a star, but most use a single hole in the center. Some also use a bolt in the center with two other bolts on either side. Check out your blade and find one that matches.

Problem with Craftsman 21 Mulcher Lawn Mower?

So I was mowing the lawn the other day and the pull cord maneged to get pulled under by the blade and got pulled clean out. I need to know if anyone can tell me how long the cord was so I can put a new one in.
Any help is appreciated.

The cutter came together (except you add oil) and started immediately. I've never driven the mower before so it took some getting used to having to go to the cutter speed (it seems to me I want to go faster). But he cut the grass well. So far everything I've done is straw but do it very well. And I'm just tired when I made the cut as I did my push mower. I think that will work very well for me.

Nice mower

The mower came all assembled (except for needing oil added) and started right off. I've never had a self propelled mower before, so it took some getting use to having to walk at the mower's speed (I seem to want to walk faster). But, it mows the grass very nicely. So far, all I've done is mulch, but it does it very well. And, I don't end up tired when I'm done mowing like I did on my "push" mower. I think this is going to work out very well for me.

This machine works very well. Simple installation was really just attached handle. First working out of the box just follow the instructions on the oil etc ... After a couple using the machine started sputtering and losing power .... This result was quite dirty and filthy air filter. We do not understand how some areas was dusty and never see the filter .... quick turn to the problem is solved ...... Lowe Lowe has the best price for the replacement of filters (even better than Walmart). The most striking feature of this machine is a way to mulching. Leaves just disappear and I think that if you follow the advice of another reviewer just mulch the leaves are dry when you will not be disappointed. It works like a charm. Very pleased with this purchase .... has a very large fortune he decided to make this machine instead of running the cutter (more than U.S. $ 1000). Action Automotive is a breeze especially on the slopes. No remorse.

A perfect unit for a little woman

This lawn mower is identical to the unit I bought through another store that carries its own name on the product and comes in red and white. Same engine. Same wheels in back. 

Its descriptors: 
1. 6 HP Briggs and Stratton Engine 
2. 22-inch side discharge/mulch front drive 
3. Self-propelled 
4. 5 height settings 
5. High rear wheels. 

For women who must buy their own lawn mowers, here are the things about this unit that I like: 
1. I borrowed my brother's older, but identical model and LOVED the self-propelled part. My newer model isn't just self-propelled--it flies. Have you seen cartoons where a person grabs something and the something goes so fast, the person just flies horizontally to the ground. Yes, I exaggerate, but my point is to emphasize how you do not have to push this unit. It propels itself, plus I have no difficulty in controlling it. The secret is hanging on and having fun! 

2. Those larger wheels in the back give the mower more stability so that the mower is easier to handle on slanted areas. 

3. I love the mulch part. I am contributing to environmental soundness by adding the grass bits back into the grass and not bagging and putting out for the trash men to pick up. Plus, when the ex used to detach that bag and dump it into trash bags, it looked so difficult. I didn't want to do that and I don't. 

4. 5-height settings. It came set at a perfect height--a little higher than close-mowed. I don't like close-mowed. 

5. The Briggs-Stratton engine. I know nothing of engines and cannot address this part. 

Oh yes, the mower really starts on the first or second pull. Incredible. It is so easy. My brother's mower took several really hard pulls. Not mine. So easy, pull and go. V-rooooommmm!

lawn mower blade replacement?

I'm a newbie here and I need help. ..I have a John Deere 42" riding lawn mower. I am trying to replace the blades because I thought one was bent. I got the correct replacement blades, but notice that the blade will not clear the mower deck around the discharge area and is rubbing on metal. I know I can't use the mower in this condition. Any ideas? Thanks....

Check your mandrel. the part that the blade is attached to, you might have a bent unit. It would gouge the ground or look uneven on the cut.
If its bent you'll need to replace or realign it. You may have hit something like a rock or raised piece of ground.
