I have an 11 year old craftsman riding lawn mower, model# 917.270810. The engine surges while running.?
It does this while the throtle is wide open and when the engine is idling, it usually happens long after the engine has warmed up. Some times it happens and other times i can run the mower all day without this problem. What could be causing this problem? It has a 19.5hp briggs and stratton I/C V-twin engine

This is an intermittent problem, how could it be the governor spring?
check in reverse order Magneto, rotor, wire, plug. then replace the spring on the governor....
