Riding Mower Question?

Ok something happened to my 1yr old riding mower yesterday. Its a Craftsman YS4500 20hp 46"cut. Briggs.
The engine rpms went way up and it sounds funny.
Everything looks normal. I continued mowing but when I turn off the blades again the rpms shoot way up. I hit a decent size stick yesterday and it changed the rpms again. This is crazy. Any ideas please. Thanks in advance.
Got it. There was a wood chip stuck behind the arm to the governor.

It may be possible the long spring to the governor has come off on the carburetor. There should be two springs, one keeps tension to return the RPM's slower when the throttle is moved and the other goes to the governor. Look around where you hit the obstacle really good or if you hose off your mower after using, the spring may be there.

Sears website has parts drawings of just about everything mechanical they sell using your model number or Identification number. Look up your mower and see if the carburetor looks like yours and if anything is missing.
