Cylinder Mowers Electric
Can I put a larger charging stator and flywheel on my 19.5hp Briggs and Stratton?

I have a 19.5 hp (model 42E707) Briggs and Stratton I/C engine with a dual circuit charging system (3amp DC 14V AC for lights) on it. It has been installed on a Dixie Chopper Zero Turn mower with an electric clutch. The 3amp charging system is not enough to keep the battery charged with the clutch engaged and I keep having to recharge the battery after using it for several hours. I think the charging stator and flywheel from another engine would fit on this engine and allow me to use one of the 10 or 16 amp charging systems that are available on other brigs and stratton engines. However, I need someone to verify this for me. Will the stator, flywheel, and regulator from a 10 or 16 amp charging system fit on my engine?

Briggs and Stratton 19.5 HP I/C Twin Cylinder Type 1631-01 Code 9612105A.

First I would determine weather the alternator is good or bad, your 19.5 H.P should run the clutch and keep battery charged, you can test the output of the alternator while machine is running. At 3600 rpm it should put out 13.78 volts D C or maybe a little more ( full throttle). This reading can be checked at the battery. If that reads good then turn on clutch to see if the reading drops. If the reading drops you need to check your electric clutch for bar wire or bad bearings etc. Good luck hope this helps
