what would stop the mower blades on tractor not turn when ingaged?
the blades on a john deere lawn tractor will not rotate when gear is engaged?
Probably 90% a belt issue. Maybe the belt slipped off. If it's worn and stretched a bit , they will come off when engaged / disengaged. A worn belt will still work to some degree at least to let you know the blades will turn, so it had to have slipped off. Do you hear the engine load when engaging? THAT would mean somethings locked up within the belt path, and it could be as simple as the belt slipping off and pinched in a pulley (you'll smell burning rubber). Depending on how old the mower is , it could be shot and bad pulleys - though usually they don't all go out at once. If the blades are jammed , the engine will load, so you'd tell.
