Lawn Mower Shed
My Mclane Trimmer lawn mower makes an odd noise?

I have this old 1970's Mclane all steel trimmer lawn mower with a 2 hp B&S motor, Last week i busted the Pull cord and waited a week to get it replaced. after i got it fixed i Bolted the pull cord Station back on, gave it a pull and it started right up with this noise like Nail's on a blackboard.

After hour's of trying to find the problem i gave up and put her in the shed. Can anyone tell me what this noise is? sounds like its coming from the recoil area but also sounds like metal rubbing on metal. The noise it makes is ear hurting.

Can anyone tell me what i can do to stop this and get the mower running right again? I posted this same thing a few days back but needed to repost and see if anyone else Knows

Any help would be welcomed

The cord is wound around a pulley that is attached to the mowers crankshaft. Inside the pulley are some kind of bearings that allow the crankshaft to spin and not turn the pulley after the mower starts. You MAY be able to squirt some lubricant like wd-40 on the bearing and stop the noise, it may just be dry and need lubrication or one of the bearings is worn out and no longer rolling. You might be able to take a pulley off of a newer mower and replace it if it is bad.
