How to disable or interrupt motor via spark plug WHILE RUNNING via circuit?
I have a small 25hp 2-stroke motor with a single sparkplug (think big lawn mower). The ignition is driven by magneto / coilpack to the single sparkplug.
I need to disable or kill the motor by somehow stopping the spark. I CANNOT use the killwire from the coilpack/magneto. I'm thinking of trying to use a high voltage reed relay placed inline between the coilpack and the sparkplug.
[COILPACK or DIS]------>[electric relay to interrupt signal]------>[spark plug].
:::::My questions::::
1a: Would it be better to just break the circuit(wire)
-or-
1b: Apply ground to the wire instead (essentially putting a ground wire to the terminal of a running spark plug)
2: Do I need any kind of resistance in my kill circuit to dissipate risidual power untill the engine stops turning (turn = magneto sends power)
3: Would these yield any unwanted side effects? (damage to coil pack..etc)
in the Good ole' days some of the single cyl motors has a piece of springy metal strip bolted to the engine somewhere near the sparkplug . it was over the spark plug terminal
the operator just pressed the metal down on the spark plug terminal and that was that>> the engine stopped
