Did I mess up my enigine?
Ok well i have a 90 honda civic lx 1.6 engine, It is fuel injected. i messed with my idle screw today. i took it out cleaned it then put it back on and now my car sounds like a lawn mower. it is really spudding bad. I tried to fix the idle because it would not hold it when it got warm. Well i also started to press on the break rapidly and the idle would go up from up 500rpm to about 700-800rpm. does that mean anything? or did i not tighten the idle screw all the way or did i really mess my car up?
Tighten the idle screw all the way, then back it off 1 and 1/4 turns. start the car, and smell the exhaust, it should be a clean exhaust smell, you will smell more of a smokey gaseous smell if you have the idle screw open too far. while the engine is running, begin tightening the screw until the engine begins to idle down. then back the c=screw off till the idle begins to come up. count the turns and come back half way, that will give you a good balance and save fuel too.
