push mower spark plug threading stripped?
I recently tried to change my spark plug on my briggs & stratton 6.75 hp push mower, and upon inserting the new plug, I realized that the spark plug threading was stripped, and the plug would not stay in the hole. Can this be fixed, and if so, is this an expensive repair? Thank you for your reply.
Its no big deal it often happens an easy fix solution is using a Heli Coil repair kit.I don't know if the same trade name is used in USA .you get a retreading tap.which you use to re-cut new threads in sparkplug hole .you then use a special tool holder to screw a coil spring into the re-tapped hole
when spring like coil enters the re tapped threads it has formed an exact replica of Original sparkplug threads.its a simple operation just take your time if you are doing it yourself and make sure no swarf is left in piston cylinder. Try a hire shop to see if they have them or purchase a kit which will have the entire works to repair any stripped thread and both sparkplug sizes.good luck hope this helped.
