17.5 hp Briggs and stratton sputters and dies after 20 minutes of use?
Acts like a fuel starvation problem but cannot seem to correct issue, after it dies the first time the running gets exponentially shorter each time until it engine cools. Have another mower with identical engine and set up but it does not suffer from same issues even after several years of abuse. Problem child sounds like it has a stuck valve will a sticking valve result in reduced fuel flow due to loss of vacuum? Still trying to understand how the system works without shelling out the dough for a manual. I have change fuel and air filter changed plugs traced wiring searching for short down to the point of switching parts with other mower. This belongs to grandfather and he has had it to 4 different mechanics to no avail they have all said it was fixed my guess is they did not let it run long enough. Any help would be appreciated thanks in adavance.
Try looking at replacing the ignition coil. Sounds like the coil is warming up and the wires are then expanding, and shorting out. We had this happen to a customer and the problem sounded exactly like yours. We replaced the coil and it solved the problem.
