To my recollection, and I am 60 years young, A YA-ZOO is a wind musical instrument that never really caught on. The first ones were hand carved out of wood and had a small chamber that circulated the air so that it caused a vibration in the whistle tones that it created. Three tones where achieved by port holes on the upper side. Latter they were made of molded plastic and included a wind hole on the bottom which was covered by the thumb. Most kids had no idea how they should work so they hummed a tune while fingering the holes.
