are there any kits available to sharpen a gas powered reel mower.?
I have a mclane gas powered reel mower and have been taking it to the golf course to get sharpened this is very costly. I was wondering if there is a way for me to do this myself.
Reel mowers can be very dangerous when you try to sharpen them. Before you do anything near the blades, insert a wood block to prevent the reel from turning and remove the spark plug from the engine. To sharpen the blades, a flat file or hand held grinder or sharpening stone will do the job nicely. The reel blades are soft steel and can be sharpened easily. Once the blades are sharpened to the point where they no longer have a tight gap to the anvil, the adjustment of the anvil can be made with a screwdriver. The adjustment screws may need to have liquid wrench applied and a hammer used to get the anvil to move. The tolerance between the blades and the anvil is not too critical, but can be adjusted too tight which will dull the blades quickly.
