Reel Mowers Riding
How do I improve the performance of a push-type "reel" mower?

Hello!

I have an "old", push-type "reel mower" that was my father's (I remember him using it when I was a child, so it has to be well over 50 years old!). While my yard is about half an acre, I use a riding mower (due to injuries) to cut the grass. However, there are some areas of the yard that that the riding mower will not get to, and this push mower would be ideal.

My questions:
1) How do I go about sharpening the "reel" blades. (I admit, being retired, handicapped, and raising 2 toddlers on my own, I am cheap and want to do it myself!)
2) I can not find any "zirks" to add grease. How can I lubricate the mechanism to reduce the effort to push the mower and make it function?

Thank you for your advice!

you can use a fine file, [ a #2 bastard file] or a hand held sharpener, [like one used to sharpen scissors] file from the front to the back of the blade
also sharpen the bottom blade.
use a spray oil or Graphite [lock ease]
