Ride Lawn Mower Names
How to start a small business?

Ok so me and my friend, we are 16 and 17. We decided to get some extra money that we want to start up a mowing business and both be partners.

My question is, is there anything we have to do with the town we live in to get established? Or do we just start advertising?

Also any tips on how to start up this business? We want to keep competitive prices, but we won't be able to mow big lawns until we get ourselves a trailer to haul the riding lawn mower. So we were just going to use 2 push mowers.

Any tips and pointers are appreciated. Thanks.

Jake
Co Founder of Two Under Par Lawn Service

We decided on our name too, Two Under Par Lawn Service.

Scope out your neighborhood Jake and find lawns that need your help. Be cautious because things are not like they were when I was a kid. We just went door to door with our mowers and gas can.
You might want to rethink your name. For those that are not familiar with the game of golf. The under par suggests maybe that the business is sub par. Maybe eagle might be better suited for both audiences. It suggests strength and integrity. and also is a good golf score. lol
If there are local businesses around , try there too, they are always looking to help out with summer jobs for teens, and they usually pay much more than private.
Try your business on a cash basis for a while before you invest in lot of equipment and advertising. Many local schools will create brochures for you as a project, if you ask.
Be on time! Be neat! take care of your customers! Number one rule. Take pride in your work! It will reflect you as a professional. Your clients will respond by giving you return business, and word of mouth advertising, which is the best in a local family friendly community!
Good luck and God bless your efforts.
