Riding Lawn Mower Names
How to fix a riding lawn mower brake? Murray?

I have a 16.5 hp Murray riding lawnmower. Brakes dont work to good. How do i adjust or replace them. Part names or numbers that I should replace? thank you

If your mower is not really old, they probably just need to be adjusted. I believe you need a 1/2" or 9/16" wrench or socket to tighten them. The adjusting nut is just under the rear of the tractor near the right rear tire. You need to jack the back of the tractor up slightly. It can be done without jacking, but it is harder to find the nut. You will see the brake rod coming from the front of the tractor. The brake itself is held on by two bolts, between those two bolts, is the adjusting nut. Tighten the nut slightly. Apply the brakes to see if they are working, if not, tighten a little more. Do not over tighten, or you will not be able to push the tractor when it is in neutral and the brake is off.
