Sears Craftsman riding lawn mower shakes when I turn it off.?
I have a sears Craftsman riding lawn mower and it shakes for a good 3-5sec after I turn the engine off. Does anyone have any idea why it does this? Any idea what is causing it and how to fix it? Thank you!
Dieseling does sound like the problem...but before you gut the entire engine to grind valves, there are easier methods to fix your problem.
1. Change your air filter/make sure it's clean
2. Change your spark plug and make sure it has the correct gap
3. Change your oil regularly. At least 1-2 times per season, more often in harsh hot climates
4. Run a little automotive fuel system cleaner through it(believe it or not)
Be sure to do your math on the cleaner though! If the cleaner treats a 12-20 gallon tank with 5oz. of liquid and your mower only holds 2 gallons of fuel...you only need a 0.5-1.0oz. shot of cleaner per tank. I prefer to use Lucas fuel additives but as long as they CLEAN the fuel system and not just remove water. After a few tanks of fuel, your symptoms should lessen and go away. All together, these four little things will keep your engine very happy for years to come. No valve grinding!
