My riding lawn mower loses power when going up hill. What are some things I need to check?
I have a 11 HP Snapper and it cuts good, but when I go up an incline, no matter how small the incline may be, my mower slows down and struggles to ride me up the incline. If I try to go up the incline in anything other than 1st gear then it sits there trying but just does not have the power to move. When I first bought the mower I could cut my yard in fourth and fifth gear without slowing down. Now I have to constantly change gears from 4th to 1st due to going up and down the same hills. It's a pain!! What do I need to do?
What type of drive does it have? The older ones had a rubber edged disc that contacted a round steel plate. It is a nice unit and the rubber edged disc is easily replaced. If you have belts it sounds like the drive belt need to be replaced. If it is the disc drive the disc needs to be replaced. Also with the disc drive, grass and debris gets into the area and that will cause the disc to slip.
