where do i find a serial number and model number on an older mtd tractor?
the mtd tractor has a pto driven mower deck, and is hydrostatic transmission. i need to find these numbers, so i can order parts. thanks for any help

I need to remove the mower deck from my Craftsman YT 3000 riding mower. The manual makes no sense..any advice?
It's 8 steps, which sounds simple enough. Step 3 tells me to "roll belt off engine pulley and belt keepers." Easy enough. However, the diagram they provide for steps 4-7 are insane (step 8 is to remove mower...easy). Step 4 says "remove retainer spring, slide collar and push housing guide out of bracket." I get the retainer spring part, but the diagram they provide for the slide collar and housing guide is so small and dark I can't makes heads or tails....
Sorry if that's too detailed, but I just need to remove the mower deck and it's very intimidating...first time homeowner. Any help is very very much appreciated!
The owners manual is usually a pretty good source. But if you need further clarification, you can ask Sears own service technicians directly at www.managemyhome.com.
When you visit that website, make sure you have the model number located under the seat when you post your question on that site. It'll start with a 917 followed by 6 additional numbers.
