Toro lawn mower idling oddly?
I have a Toro lawn mower. Its kind of old, but it works. I took it out of storage over the weekend to cut the grass, and I noticed that it isn't idling well at all. It kind of does it in fits and starts. It revs up, then slows down, then revs up again. I noticed it doesn't do this on choke. I just changed the oil, the air filter was just cleaned, and I put fresh gas in it. I also tried some carb cleaner and that worked... for about 10 seconds. As long as I sprayed the cleaner into the intake, it idled fine. But as soon as I stopped, it got worse.
The lawn mower is the kind where you have a control bar that allows the engine to run without the blade turning. When the blade is turning, the mower sounds fine, its just that it idles oddly.
I would really like to avoid $100+ trip to the mechanic.
Help?
Sounds like you did most everything but put a new spark plug in it. Sometimes the idle body or mechanism sometime stick when in storage so I would take some WD-40 and hit any moving parts outside and around the throttle body and cables to free up any gunk or debris that would cause it to not idle as it did. Hope this helps.
